About Made in Nigeria

National Strategies for Homegrown Economic Promotion, Innovation, Sustainable Growth, Entrepreneurship, and NATIONAL BRAND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS.

The Made in Nigeria Project Office, is a strategic initiative of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF). It is dedicated to driving Nigeria’s economic transformation by promoting the production, consumption, and global visibility of locally made goods and services. Our focus is on empowering Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), stimulating industrial growth, and repositioning Nigeria as a hub for homegrown innovation and sustainable development.

Through robust national programs, trade exhibitions, economic forums, and brand development strategies, the Made in Nigeria Project aims to enhance self-reliance, reduce import dependence, and create jobs—ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s GDP growth and economic diversification.

Leadership

The Made in Nigeria Project is led by Mr. George Buchi Nwabueze, serving as the National Coordinator, under the International Organizations Department of the OSGF. The Project actively participates in national and international events including the Abuja Expo, Buy Nigeria Trade Fair & Economic Forum, and maintains an active presence on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Our Journey

The Made in Nigeria initiative was conceived in 2006 during the Nigeria–Singapore Economic Forum. Formalized under the leadership of Ambassador Chike Alex Anigbo (MNI) and approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2017, the project was initially run as a public-private partnership with Trade Nigeria.

It underwent multiple test cases—such as the Nigeria–Ireland, Nigeria–South Korea, Nigeria–Singapore, and Nigeria–Poland Economic Forums—before being officially institutionalized. The Made in Nigeria Project Office was formally established under the OSGF in May 2025, cemencing its role as a statutory national program.

What Does “Made in Nigeria” Mean?

  • 100% Locally Sourced: Products made entirely from Nigerian raw materials and labor (e.g., herbal soap using local plants and packaging).
  • Locally Manufactured with Imported Components: Products produced in Nigeria using some imported inputs (e.g., local wood furniture with imported screws).

This distinction is key for:

  • Economic Impact: Boosts local suppliers and job creation.
  • Sustainability: Encourages eco-friendly, domestic resource use.
  • Value Chain Growth: Strengthens agriculture, industry, and logistics.
  • Quality Control: Ensures consistency and reduces import dependency.

Role of Government in Promoting Made in Nigeria

Federal Government:

  • Enacts policies protecting local industries.
  • Offers tax incentives and production subsidies.
  • Facilitates financial support for manufacturers.

State & Local Governments:

  • Provide infrastructure (roads, power, industrial parks).
  • Enforce local procurement policies.
  • Foster SME innovation through enabling environments.
